I’ve LOVED creating these wintry trees. They are simple to make and delicious to eat!
This is the perfect activity for children and adults of all ages as there’s no skill involved, although an adult is required to melt the chocolate safely.
The decorating of your trees is entirely up to you. I’ve kept it simple with a dusting of icing sugar and a sprinkle of glitter, but the sky’s the limit. Use sprinkles, snowflakes, little robin decorations would be adorable.
You could use your finished trees as table decorations, wrap them in tissue paper and give them as gifts, or break them up & eat them watching your favourite festive film.
I have made these with cornflakes as they give the tree a lovely organic shape. However, you could use Rice Krispies if you prefer. This tree below is made with Rice Krispies:

The making of the layers takes a little time, so if you prefer a quicker version I have an alternative quicker recipe
Chocolate Cornflake Christmas Trees recipe – makes 2 small trees or 1 large tree
Ingredients:
- 200g chocolate – I used milk chocolate
- 25g butter
- 1 tbsp golden syrup
- 120g cornflakes
- To assemble:
- 100g chocolate, melted
- A nesting set of 6 round biscuit cutters.
Method:

Melt the chocolate, butter and syrup in a heatproof bowl, over a pan of barely simmering water.

Draw around each of your cutters on a sheet of baking parchment paper, leaving a couple of centimetres between each one.
Repeat this step so you have two sheets of paper, each with 6 different sized circles. These are your templates.
Turn the paper over so the pen marks are underneath and put each sheet of paper onto a tray or baking tray.
(I only used one large sheet of paper as my baking trays are supersized)

Stir the melted chocolate mixture until smooth, then pour into the cornflakes and mix together until all the cornflakes are coated in chocolate.

Using 2 small spoons, fill each of your circles with a layer of the chocolate cornflakes.
The smallest circles can be tall pointy piles of cornflakes as they’ll crown your 2 trees. Smooth the tops of all the other layers flat.
Put your trays of chocolate layers in the fridge or a cool dry place to set for 1-2 hours.

Put the two biggest cornflake layers onto plates or a tray. These are the bottom layers of your trees.
If you want to stick your trees to the plate, put a spoonful of melted chocolate on the bottom of the cornflake layers and press gently onto the plate.

Repeat with all the other cornflake layers in size order.
Put a spoonful of melted chocolate onto the bottom of each layer and stack, pressing gently to stick together.
Leave in a cool place for an hour or two to set.

Sift icing sugar liberally over your trees and add a little edible glitter if you’re feeling fancy!
If you scale up the recipe to make a little chocolate woodland you could add deer – make yourself a little Narnia scene!
Top tip:
You can add dried fruit & nuts to the cornflakes if you like.
This recipe works with milk, dark or white chocolate. Just make sure you use the same chocolate for the cornflakes and for the assembly.
If you prefer, you can make one tall tree instead of two small ones. Use the recipe as above, but stack your layers up in pairs to make the tree a double height.
You can use Rice Krispies instead of cornflakes if you like.

Enjoy!
